- FYI, to follow up on my original post, which asked how I can deal with the
- phone company's stance that they don't promise any given data rate on a
- residential line (I wasn't able to get over 21.6kbps on my new second line).
-
- My third call to the phone company over a week was answered by someone who was
- able to do a remote test of my line and said it came back as "Open Out"
- meaning that there was an imperfection somewhere between the central office
- and my building. That justified them sending out a repair person, even though
- I had voice-grade use working.
-
- The tech came today (Sunday) and we worked out a great solution for us all --
- we swapped my second and first phone lines, so my second one was the perfect
- one, and the first one was sufficient for voice calls. I'm happy to be able
- to cruise again at top speeds, at no additional cost to me.
